Gateway to FILEY and the YORKSHIRE COAST
Filey is at the eastern end of the Cleveland Way, a well know hiking trek that starts in the village of Helmsley.
It is also the northern end of the Yorkshire Wolds Way which starts at Hessle and crosses the Yorkshire Wolds. Filey is the finishing point for the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride from Wetherby. The 70 mile ride begins at Wetherby Racecourse.
Filey is popular with holiday makers and day trippers of all ages, it has large sandy beaches and a relaxing pace compared to the busier resort of Scarborough.
Although there is still a fishing industry in Filey, it never has been the size of the neighbouring posts of Scarborough or Whitby. Although fishing boats are usually visible on the Coble Landing that leads down to the beach.
Filey is a traditional Yorkshire seaside town with a friendly atmosphere and is famous for its Brigg that stretches out into the North Sea, providing a haven for wildlife.
Here you can enjoy a variety of pastimes with museums and fun parks for the kids. The local tourist information centre will be delighted to help you make the best of your visit.
